Compliance that creates itself.

Sachdeva Kukreja Nasa & Co. ran compliance for 334+ client entities on four Google Forms and the memory of its staff. Brandstac replaced both with a platform where the work creates itself.

The old way

SKN & Company is an established Chartered Accountancy firm in Delhi — 10+ staff handling tax and corporate compliance for private companies, LLPs, proprietorships, municipal bodies and non-profits. Its four verticals, Income Tax, GST, TDS and ROC, each ran on a separate Google Form feeding a spreadsheet: file a return, then log it.

That logged work after it was done, and nothing more. A form response is a record of past work, not a reminder of what is owed next. Nothing in a sheet knows a client owes a GSTR-3B every month; someone had to remember, and when they took leave or moved on, that knowledge left with them. The four forms had also drifted into four conflicting client lists, with the same company under two spellings, and clients phoned the office whenever they needed an acknowledgement or challan for a bank or an audit.

The cost of forgetting

Indian compliance is full of rules a spreadsheet cannot hold. QRMP filers under GST file on the 22nd or the 24th depending on the state of their GSTIN. TDS returns fall due by the end of the month after each quarter — except the March quarter, due on 31 May. ITR moves from 31 July to 31 October when a tax audit applies. ROC's AOC-4 and MGT-7 run off each company's AGM date, not a fixed day.

Missing any of them is expensive: ₹50 a day for GST, ₹200 a day for TDS under Section 234E, and ₹100 a day per ROC form with no upper limit. One AOC-4 two months late is ₹6,000. Like most firms, SKN absorbed these late fees as goodwill — and a handful of misses a year cost more than building the software.

The reframe

The brief on the table was to turn the Google Forms into web forms. We pushed back: a new interface on the same form fixes nothing. The core unit of a CA practice is not a form response. It is a recurring statutory job — client entity × compliance type × period.

So the software has to know what every client owes, and create the work before anyone asks.

The work creates itself

Every morning at 6:00 AM a statutory engine checks each client's profile — GSTIN and state group, tax-audit status, AGM date — against the compliance calendar and generates the upcoming jobs with exact due dates, assigned to the team. Nobody types next month's task list. When CBDT or CBIC extends a deadline, an admin changes it once under Statutory Extensions and every affected job, across hundreds of clients, is re-dated.

Staff see only their own jobs, sorted by urgency. Managers and partners see the whole firm: overdue filings, workload, unassigned jobs and bottlenecks.

Proof, delivered

A job can only be marked Filed once the acknowledgement or ARN is uploaded — no premature or false completions. The moment it is, proof of filing goes to the client by email or WhatsApp, whichever they prefer.

Clients sign in to a self-serve portal with a passwordless OTP to see every completed filing, download computations, challans and receipts, upload requested documents and review outstanding fees. Every file lands in the firm's own Google Drive in a standard client / financial year / return-type hierarchy, with immutable versioning — a revised computation becomes v2 without overwriting v1.

Clean data from day one

Onboarding meant migrating four messy sheets. We built an importer that auto-mapped columns, merged duplicate entities across sheets with fuzzy matching, and validated every PAN and GSTIN before import — ending with 334 clean client profiles and a single source of truth.

The stack

Next.js App Router, React, TypeScript and Tailwind CSS; PostgreSQL on Neon with Drizzle ORM; a scheduled daily statutory engine; the Google Drive API for documents, Gmail SMTP and the Meta WhatsApp Business API for client alerts; hosted on Vercel Pro.

Why it matters

What began as a request to revamp four forms became an operational transformation: recurring work generated automatically, no late fees written off, and clients who help themselves instead of calling. Because the statutory calendar and compliance logic are configurable reference data rather than hardcoded rules, the platform is also a blueprint for automating Indian CA practices at scale.
