KarbonZ
Turning green habits into corporate accountability.
KarbonZ is an enterprise carbon-intelligence and sustainability-engagement platform for the Indian market, built entirely by brandstac — consumer app, employee portal, corporate ESG hub and superadmin portal.
The idea
KarbonZ bridges household carbon accounting with corporate Scope 3 ESG reporting under India's BRSR mandate. brandstac made the product decisions and built all four portals, plus the design and SEO.
Consumer and employee
The B2C portal uses phone-OTP auth and a baseline survey (household size, residence, transit, AC use, appliance efficiency, vehicles, flights) to compute an annual footprint, shown on a carbon-score gauge benchmarked to regional Indian averages, with monthly bill logging via manual entry, invoice OCR or automatic utility fetch.
The employee portal verifies staff by OCR of a company ID card — no HR friction — and runs six habit programmes with department and company leaderboards ranked by KarbonZ Points and kg CO₂ saved.
Corporate and admin
The corporate ESG hub provides an executive Scope 3 dashboard, branch/department hierarchy, a campaign manager with targets and reward pools, and a BRSR compliance and audit centre exporting multi-sheet Excel and print-ready PDF.
A superadmin portal handles tenant provisioning, invite tokens, a verification queue and global emission-factor management — configurable to India's grid emission factor. The product default reflects a grid factor near India's operating-margin value; for reference, the Central Electricity Authority's CO₂ Baseline Database Version 21.0 (November 2025) puts the weighted-average grid emission factor at 0.710 tCO₂/MWh.
The stack
React 18 with Vite (lazy-loaded, code-split portals), Recharts/D3 visualisation, FastAPI (Python) with SQLAlchemy on PostgreSQL, APScheduler for reminders and auto-fetches, SheetJS exports and OCR for ID cards, with isolated auth tokens per portal and an append-only carbon-assessment log.
